The Tribal Council

Class of 2019-20

Leadership has no age requirement.

Based in South Shore International College Prep, with regular, intentionally purposed outings, Young Leaders' Academy's The Tribal Council consists of 32 weeks of strategically planned workshops and youth designed activities for select 7th-12th grade students.

WHO'S IT FOR?

Young people,

  • grades 7-12,

  • with a propensity for leadership,

  • committed to developing into their best self,

  • and with a servant's heart.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Guided by the principles of unity & self-determination Young Leaders’ Academy develops youth leadership and amplifies youth voices by building:

  1. self-awareness, 

  2. executive functioning, 

  3. conflict resolution, 

  4. social-emotional regulation and mindfulness, 

  5. as well as, financial and functional literacy skills in each apprentice.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Tribal Council apprentices engage in leadership workshops Wednesday,  4:30-6pm at South Shore International College Prep. Youth unite for service 8 hours per month, and for fellowship 3 hours per month. Service and fellowship dates are strategically selected during the design phase of each project.

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Youth design and participate in hands-on activities, workshops, and outings that account for their own individual strengths, interests, areas for growth and questions.  

We diligently challenge young leaders to ensure they target:

  • Self-examination & awareness

  • Functional Literacy (Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing)

  • Health & Wellness

  • Agriculture

  • Science & Technology

  • Financial Literacy

  • Self-Defense & Conflict Resolution

  • Arts & Culture 

  • Community Development & Service
